"Room On The Broom", by Max Lang and Jan Lachauer, winner of the prize Mar Shopping of Curtinhas competition in the last edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival has just been announced as one of five nominees for the Oscars in the category of best Short Film Animated.

The British animated film tells the story of a witch and her cat that were "happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind blows away the witch's hat, then her bow, and then her wand”.

The Curtinhas competition prize, supported by Mar Shopping, was awarded the "Room On The Broom" by a jury composed exclusively of children who, together, decided the best film in the competition. In the awards ceremony, the jury gave the trophy to the filmmaker Jan Lachauer, present at the Festival.

Max Lang that also directed "Room On The Broom", is not unknown to Curtas Vila do Conde once he has presented the animated short film "The Gruffalo", in the 2010 edition’s competition of the Festival.

Curtinhas is the kids’ dedicated permanent section of the Festival, that with a program designed specifically for children includes, in addition to the competition, a children's play area and several workshops, approaching the young generation to the cinematic universe. The mini-festival occurs because of Animar, an educational program, whose next edition returns from February 15 to June 1, 2014.
