Due to the notorious interest and big attendance to last Sunday's Special Session, with the movies "Vaza" and "A Tale of Two Cities", Curtas Vila do Conde has decided to open an extra session next Saturday, at 2.30pm at Auditório Municipal, so that you can watch, or rewatch, the two films about Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim.

Every year, Curtas gives visibility to films that feature local realities, and this year was no exception. The Special Session, last Sunday, had a full house and tickets sold out. For that reason, Curtas Vila do Conde will show, once again, the films featured in the Special Session, giving the opportunity to those who couldn't be there, and to those who want to rewatch it, to see them again.

"Vaza", by José Manuel Sá and Paulo Pinto, tells Vânia's story, who is a teenager, a caxineira like all her family, always attached to the sea. "A Tale of Two Cities", by Morag Brennan and Steve Harrison, is a film about Póvoa de Varzim in the 1950s and 1960s, starred by the people of Póvoa de Varzim. The film begins with the famous photograph of Maria do Alívio at age 16, walking barefoot through Rua das Lavadeiras, under the iconic publicity poster with the diva Sophia Loren, and tells the story of two very different Póvoas de Varzim: the fishing community and the brutal reality of a traditional way of life, and the tourist town and the individuals who have begun to design it nationally as a busy holiday destination.

The film offers this historical journey to a world that is now almost forgotten, but also to a Portuguese society marked by the Salazarismo of bad memory. For the dictator, Póvoa de Varzim represented a singular repository of memories linked to the heroic sea gestation, but it would also be the dramatic scenario for the confrontation between the Estado Novo dictatorship and the man who swore to overthrow it, General Humberto Delgado. This “Tale of Two Cities” is told through eyewitness interviews, sometimes hilarious and sometimes painful, but always inspiring and revealing.

The session will be at Auditório Municipal and the tickets can be bought at Teatro Municipal, Auditório Municipal and at the Online Ticket Office.
