Filmmaker Todd Solondz is the director in focus of the 27th edition of Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival, which this year will take place from July 6 to 14.

Todd Solondz is one of the leading independent American filmmakers and will attend the festival to present a retrospective of his filmography, from the films that contributed to his critical breakthrough in the 1990s, such as "Welcome to the Dollhouse" (1995) and "Happiness" (1998), to his more recent works, such as "Dark Horse" (2011) or "Wiener Dog" (2016). The retrospective will take place from July 6 to 10 at Vila do Conde Municipal Theater.
Known for his irony, Solondz challenges viewers to overcome prejudices through his gaze, even if pessimistic has the gift of teaching us to face life through the tenderness of his characters. It portrays the darker side of the human being, but with a good deal of humor, in a visceral analysis explored through a tragicomic vision.
Todd Solondz will be in Vila do Conde to present his work and, on the 10th July, the festival goers will have the chance to attend a talk with the director at the Municipal Theater of Vila do Conde.
Solondz visit to Portugal will also include the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University where he will participate at the Summer School and present one of his films in the city of Porto, on July 5th, a screening that will open the retrospective at Curtas Vila do Conde.
