The English band Tindersticks will present their new album, "The Waiting Room", in a live show at Curtas Vila do Conde. The Stereo section of the festival, dedicated to music events, will also feature film-concerts by Jay-Jay Johanson, The Legendary Tigerman and The Greg Foat Group.

Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival is back for its 24th edition between 9 and 17 July. As in previous years, the programme will highlight the intersection between cinema and music through the section Stereo, where moving images are reinterpreted by musicians and bands in live acts.

On July 13th, Tindersticks will present "The Waiting Room" in a film-concert with several short films that illustrate the tracks from the new album. In the second part of the show, the band will also perform songs that celebrate 25 years of Tindersticks. It is an absolute premiere in Portugal.

Published earlier this year, "The Waiting Room" is the tenth studio album by Tindersticks and features collaborations by Beth Jehnny, lead singer of the Savages; a virtual duet with Lhasa De Sela, the singer who died in 2010; and arrangements by Julian Siegel. This new work is accompanied by an ambitious audiovisual project that explores the relationship between Tindersticks and cinema: several directors were invited to create short films that visually illustrate each of the 11 tracks on the album. These interpretations were made by filmmakers as Christoph Girardet, Joe King and Rosie Pedlow - that have also presented films in past editions of the festival - Pierre Vinour, Claire Denis, Gregorio Graziosi, Richard Dumas and the Brazilian Gabriel Sanna, amongst others. Some of the videos are signed by Stuart A. Staples, lead singer of the band.

The project, produced by the Blogotheque and the record label Lucky Dog, is the result of a partnership with the Festival International du Court Métrage à Clermont-Ferrand, where the show was first presented.

On 16th of July, Jay-Jay Johanson, the artist known by his melancholic voice, will present his latest album "Opium", with an audiovisual show in which the themes are accompanied by moving images.

Admittedly more pop and rock than the others, the tenth album of originals by Jay-Jay Johanson keeps all the essence of his music: an innate facility for melodies and a voice and rhythms that elevate his songs from subtle to sublime.

A recurring presence at Curtas Vila do Conde, The Legendary Tigerman is back to the festival on July 15th with "How To Become Nothing", the project that lead the musician, the photographer Rita Lino and the filmmaker Pedro Maia on a road trip through the California desert. The result that will premiere at Curtas Vila do Conde, is a road movie presented in a film-concert with live music by The Legendary Tigerman and images manipulated live by Pedro Maia.

"How To Become Nothing" is a false diary with photos, Super 8mm film and texts by Paulo Furtado, the result of three visions on the journey of a man who, more than disappear, wants to become nothing, to be nothing.

For the first time in Portugal, The Greg Foat Group, the jazz quintet led by the talented musician Greg Foat, will perform in the festival on July 14th to present a project in world premiere. "Visual Music" is a project with original soundtrack for classic experimental cinema of the 20’s by Hans Richter, Marcel Duchamp, Ralph Steiner and Walter Ruttmann.

With several works published by Jazzman Records, The Greg Foat Group is acclaimed by international critics since their premiere. Their unique sound is characterized by the atmosphere of experimentation, using instruments such as the harpsichord, synthesizer, tubular bells, in a mixture of styles and musical trends that stand out for their cinematic environment and psychedelic jazz.

Tickets for the film-concerts of Curtas Vila do Conde are on sale at the venue and Online (www.bol.pt)

In its 24th edition, Curtas Vila do Conde will continue to present the best of contemporary cinema through a wide selection of innovative films to an interested audience that lives the week of the Festival with intensity.

Curtas Vila do Conde has the support of Câmara Municipal de Vila do Conde, the Ministry of Culture, the Portuguese Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual and several partners essential to the festival. The Stereo section is sponsored by FNAC.
