Commercial premiere of "Mariphasa"

The feature film by Sandro Aguilar, "Mariphasa", has a commercial premiere this week in Portugal. The film was premiered world-wide at the 25th Curtas Vila do Conde in 2017, and later went on to the Forum of the Berlinale.

The world premiere of "Mariphasa", by Sandro Aguilar, took place in the 25th edition of Curtas Vila do Conde in 2017. This week the feature film reaches the Portuguese commercial circuit of film screening. 

Prior to "Mariphasa", Sandro Aguilar directed another feature film, "A Zona", which was launched almost a decade ago in 2009. During this time, the director focused on the format of the short film, with more than a dozen films, which have been screened and awarded worldwide.

At the Vila do Conde festival, Sandro Aguilar won the main prize of the national competition with "Corpo e Meio" in 2001, as well as the prize of a young Portuguese filmmaker with "Estou Perto" in 1998. He is considered one of the central names of Gerações Curtas.  

Director and producer, Sandro Aguilar (1974) completed the Cinema course, specialized in Montage, of ​​the Lisbon School of Theater and Cinema in 1997 and, a year later, founded the production company O Som e a Fúria. His films have won prizes at festivals such as La Biennale di Venezia, Gijón, Oberhausen and Curtas Vila do Conde and were exhibited in Torino, Belfort, Montreal and Clermont-Ferrand, among others. His work has been the subject of retrospectives at BAFICI, Rotterdam and the Arsenal Institute.

25th Curtas Vila do Conde Screening Tour

The 25th edition of Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival ended last July 16th with the award ceremony. As usual, the screening tour of the festival will screen, in different parts of Portugal, some of the short films awarded at the festival.


These sessions, which started on July 17th and will continue until October, will present a selection of national and international films for adults and children in different cities: Braga, Porto, Lisbon, Coimbra, Vila Real, Leiria, Caldas da Rainha, Setúbal, Castro Verde, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.

25th Curtas Vila do Conde ends today, with the announcement of the winning films. The awards ceremony takes place at 5pm, where we will also feature two shortcuts:

After knowing the awarded films, they will be, once again, exhibited, with sessions at 5pm, for the Curtinhas Competition, and at 6.30pm, 9.15pm and 10.30pm for the International, National and Experimental Competition.

Before that, at 3pm, we repeat Saturday's National Competition session and, at 4pm, we hold the last Meeting Wiht Directors.

The day ends at Cacau Café-Bar, with the Staff Night.

The tickets are being sold at Teatro Municipal, Auditório Municipala and at the Online Ticket Office.

This Saturday, Curtas Vila do Conde promotes the debate "Portuguese Cinema: doubts, certainties and expectations", a conversation about the current political context of the national cinema and the consequences of the change made on the Cinema Law, at 6pm at the Auditório Municipal.

The In Focus retrospective on F. J. Ossang continues today with a double session. At 3pm we will show every short-cut by the director, followed by a debate with F. J. Ossang himself and the investigator Nicole Brenez. At 11.30pm, and closing this year's In Focus section, we exhibit the film "Dr. Chance", starring the portuguese actor Pedro Hestnes. In this story, Angstel switches forged portraits, under the orientation of his mother, Milady. His connections include other obscure subjects, causing he rage of a rival gang. Angstel falls in love with Ancetta, a prostitute, e runs away with her to the north of Chile.

The National Competition, continues today. At 9.15pm we will show three more movies of this year's selection: "Cedrim", by Diogo Vale, "Longe da Amazónia", by Francisco Carvalho and "Farpões Baldios", by Marta Mateus. At 8pm we repeat yesterday's session. Still within the competitions, highlight to the two International Competition sessions, at 5pm and at 10.30pm, and to the Experimental Competition, 6.30pm. 

The Carte Blanche continues today, featuring the choices by João Faria, Paulo Furtado and Sabrina D. Marques: "Coffee and Cigarettes", by Jim Jarmusch; "Kaleidoscope", by Len Lye; "Visa de Censure No.X", by Pierre Clémenti.
 
The Meetings with Directors continue today, with sessions that promote the dialogue with directors from the International and Experimental Competition, at 2pm, and from the National Competition at 4pm. 

Today's Stereo section presents a concert by the portuguese band Mão Morta. This year, their mythical album "Mutantes S21" turns 25, and so, 9 years later, they return to Curtas Vila do Conde, to celebrate the work that put them in the spolight of portuguese music.
The day ends at Café do Parque, with a DJ Set by The Legendary Tigerman.
