“Cidade Pequena / Small Town” by Diogo Costa Amarante has won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival. The short film was produced by Curtas Metragens CRL and premiered at Curtas Vila do Conde, in 2016.
Curtas Vila do Conde presents three sessions dedicated to the Audiovisual Essays. A format made popular by the new digital tools, the audiovisual essay takes a new look on films, analysing its structures and their likeliness’s. It is a new genre of cinephilia, sometimes freer, sometimes more academic and analytical. On this section, the archaeology of the genre will be presented, with historical films from, amongst others, Bruce Conner, Dara Birnbaum or Jean-Luc Godard.
Curtas Vila do Conde continues to present its most attended competition sessions: International, Portuguese, Experimental, Music Video, Take One! (school films), and Curtinhas (films for kids). The best of the contemporary cinema is here, with films that question conventions, genres and themes to provide us with a panoramic view of our days.
