When I received the invitation to present a project in Solar Cinematic Art Gallery in Vila do Conde, by absolute chance my dear friend Nicole Brenez just sent me an original trailer from the film by Jean Luc Godard, Numéro 2, and wrote, “I think you can use it well”. I made the digitalization from the original 35mm, and after the first 2 days of euphoria to have the opportunity to work with such precious material, soon it installed in me a feeling of doubt mixed with fear ...I started to see the complete film several times, until I decided to focus on the 4.56.20 minutes of images I have to work with. I decided for an installation that in a way invite the public to follow the same steps and questions I asked to myself, when I see in front of me all information that a single frame encapsulates, a second of sound it’s a composition narrative, so I embraced the images and sound of Godard, and re-fragmented them, stepping away from the original film but keeping it inside of what I was doing, a narrative in which I insist on questioning the power of the image, insisting on questioning images and sounds that are never shown in the cinema, yet they exist and as soon they exist they have a meaning and create millions of questions. Also, it was very important to use 2 digitalisations: the one that shows the time operating in the original film, were History was “composing” a new set of colours, and the one with corrections. This balance with 2 narratives allowed me to cut, fragment, and compose a new narrative were some permanent questions on image remain contemporary, and it was like this, I think, I could work in the visible shadows, and among questions I share with the audience.
