LA FEMME CANON THE CANNONBALL WOMAN
Albertine Zullo, David Toutevoix, 2017
Switzerland · France · Canada, ANI, 00:14:00
First a cannon launch and immediately after a woman comes flying across the skies. Here's how this animated short film starts, unfolding a couple's daily routine. The repeating sequence – a launch, a flight, a soft landing and a long walk home where her companion awaits her with the dinner ready – can’t mask the problems they're having. One day, tired of it all, she doesn't come home. Estranged and discouraged, they resume their circus career separately, ignoring each other's destiny. However, this is not the classical variation of the story boy meets girl/ boy falls in love with girl/ boy launches girl from a cannon/ boy loses girl, but rather a delicate, bittersweet and sentimental depiction of a love story in the most peculiar circumstances. This directorial debut is the result of a collaboration between two Sweden authors, David Toutevoix, DOP in “My Life as a Zucchini”, and Albertine Zullo, a published illustrator. (JA)
