A few months before his death, Franz Schubert wrote one of his most important works: “Winterreise”, a collection of 24 piano and voice pieces, published in 1828, which were inspired and composed from 24 poems written by Wilhelm Müller.

It is a story through the eyes of a young man who, rejected by his fiancée, escapes civilization and journeys into the winter wilderness. While getting farther and farther from civilization, his grief and the nature around him trigger hallucinations and memories of the past, which eventually cause him to lose track of time and reality and lead him closer and closer to death.

I become Schubert’s romantic wanderer and I embark on a personal journey through the essence of the moving image as well as its limits. An empirical experimentation to study how to think of time and its fleeting and shimmering evanescence, and the use of the moving image as the record of a brief and transitory moment in space and time.

My art practice is about movement, time and the precarious edge between objective reality and poetic reality. I am especially interested in the creation of transit times that do not refer to an external world, but to a mental representation that precisely removes the borders between the real and the unreal in order to cause an unsettling ambiguity, a slippage between sleeping and awakening.
