THE AIR OF THE EARTH IN YOUR LUNGSTHE AIR OF THE EARTH IN YOUR LUNGSRoss Meckfessel, 2018 USA · Japan,
EXP, 00:11:20A mirror becomes a screen when we do not want to see the world through our eyes. The contemporary state of the world shows us an increasingly binding relationship between man and machine – we experience time and space through the captured reality and processed through digital images, some of them in 3D, produced by cutting-edge technology. GoPro cameras, drones and virtual reality glasses, among others, are extensions of visual perception that more and more are imposed as the main instrument of our vision. Ross Meckfessel, premiering at Curtas Vila do Conde, creates a bewildering kinetic narrative where the analogue landscape of the natural ecosystem collides with its digital reproduction. If at some point we feel that we are reliving a world inhabited by the legendary aesthetics of Daft Punk, in other we go into a sort of science fiction when we watch the transformation of natural fauna into pixelated images. “The Air Of The Earth In Your Lungs” is an essay on how we see the world and a possible landscape for the 21st century.
