Video artist and photographer Eija-Liisa Ahtila (b.1959, Finland) was one of the directors featured in Work in Progress after winning the award for Best Fiction in Vila do Conde in 2002. Her work, which can be presented in a movie theatre, on TV or as an installation in a gallery or museum, deals with the theme of human relationships (family, romantic and gender relationships) in a narrative that is devised from her own experiences and observations. Ahtila’s work has been presented around the world in prestigious art venues such as Kiasma – Contemporary Art Museum, Helsinki, Tate Modern, London, Documenta11, Kassel, MoMA, New York and the Venice Biennale.


The retrospective held in Vila do Conde included “Me/We, Okay, Gray” (1993), “Tänään” (1996), “Jos 6 Olis 9” (1995), “Lohdutusseremonia” (1999), and “Rakkaus On Aare” (2002). Work in Progress also presented the video installation “Tuuli” (2002).
