MARTIN SCORSESE

The second Curtas Vila do Conde presented the work of US director Martin Scorsese (b.1942). The programme, where the distinction between documentary and fiction wasn’t always clear, included films from 1993, the highlight being “Italianamerican”, filmed in New York, in the living room of his apartment on Elisabeth Street. In this film, where the experience of Italian-American immigrants is depicted, Scorsese’s parents, Charles and Catherine, share stories about their childhood and their families. Three other films were presented: “What's a Pretty Girl Like You Doing In A Place Like This?”, “The Big Shave” and “It's Not Just Murray”.

More recently, during the closing session of the 16th Curtas Vila do Conde, the Festival hosted the Portuguese premiere of the short “The Key to Reserva”, Scorsese’s take on a script by Alfred Hitchcock.
