MICHELANGELO ANTONIONI

The Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni is one of the founders of modern cinema, especially in its most existentialist dimension, integrating in his films the alienation of human beings in the context of urban revolution of the second half of the twentieth century. In this context, it is famous his trilogy "of modernity and its discontents" - "L'Avventura" (1960), "La Notte" (1961) and "L'Eclisse" (1962) - which absorb a certain pessimism by state of the world. This is also why his films subvert the classical narrative cinema, using cinema as visual and party device a certain narrative minimalism.

During his career, he also made several short films. A selection of these films were screened in the 22nd Curtas Vila do Conde, as well as "Red Desert" film of his artistic maturity and its first project in color and "Blow-up". Antonioni won numerous awards, including the maximum awards at Cannes and Venice, as well as an honorary award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood. The Italian director died on July 30, 2007, the same day the death of Ingmar Bergman. It was one of the great directors in film history.
