Born in 1943, the Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson was ‘rediscovered’ in 2000 on occasion of the premiere of his feature “Songs from the Second Floor”, that won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Two years later, Curtas Vila do Conde welcomed Andersson as a member of the festival’s international jury and presented a retrospective of his work. After the public and critical acclaim generated by his first feature, “A Swedish Love Story” (1970) and the failure of his second film “Giliap”, Andersson moved on to advertising. In the mid 1980s he directed two shorts and only in 2000 did he return to feature film. The programme included a selection of his advertising spots, made between 1975 and 2002, as well as school films from 1967 and 1968.

In addition, the Festival presented “Obsessions from the second floor”, a documentary about Andersson.
