n 1999, Yu Lik-Wai comes forward with his first fiction film, a feature called “Love Will Tear Us Apart”. With a contained narrative and a masterfully served sober photography with a big dramatic effect, the film showcases the director as a definitive author of the contemporary fiction of the new Asian cinema. His following work – “All Tomorrow’s Parties” – is selected for the Un Certain Regarde of Cannes festival, in 2003. In the next year he directs a short-film commissioned by the Jeonju International Film Festival.
