"Flowing Home”: a sentimental and melancholic portrait about the separation of two sisters. This animation intelligently uses the artifice of exchanging letters between the two characters to fill the narrative with the emotional repercussions felt by both due to the absence and wistful longing. The story revealed through this long-distance exchange of words informs us little by little that it all started during the war between the North and the South of Vietnam, when in 1978 one of the sisters fled abroad with an uncle, while the other stayed with their parents in Saigon. Over the years, the two sisters write about their separate lives: on the one hand, a feeling of guilt and deep sadness for not being present in troubled times; on the other, the account of the difficult conditions of life in a country undergoing a hard reconstruction process. The moments lost with the passage of time are inevitable, but it is the shared childhood memories that hold the hope of a reunion between the two. This film marks the debut of the director Sandra Desmazières at Curtas. (JA)
