For the less attentive, the festival could create a surprise and immediately raise a question: is Vila do Conde a short film festival?

There is no doubt about that for us. Vila do Conde is a festival in which short films have and will have a prime programming space with competitions, author retrospectives and, whenever justified, with sessions that address certain themes that, from a programming point of view, , we are interested in developing. However, without having to resort to a deep conceptualization of what festival we are, Vila do Conde is, today more than anything, as can be seen in the program of this 12th edition, a festival of cinema and other visual arts (audio).

Since the 2002 festival (the tenth) this has been the case. There was an evolution in the festival's costumes that implied a notable growth in its programming schedule. The occupation of traditional spaces, with cinema and film concert events, and of new spaces (Solar de S. Roque and others), with thematic exhibitions, video installations and sound/image performances, illustrate this growth. All this is visible with the increase in the duration of the festival which is now stabilized at 9 days (July 3rd to 11th).
