After a panoramic x-ray of the US, François Reichenbach focuses on a tiny French rural town, Loué, a few kilometers from Le Mans. The concentrated dimension of the place enhances the filmmaker’s careful eye towards the behavior of the different social groups that make up this small community. Following the local primary school teacher, who plays both protagonist and cicerone, the movie adopts the structure of a class in which a series of lessons are taught (from the importance of a cow to funeral rites, going through accounting and sexual desire).
