The only film directed by the Iranian feminist poet Forough Farrokhzad, “The House is Black” looks at a community of inhabitants isolated from the rest of the world by leprosy. Inspired by the Old Testament, the Quran, and the director’s own poetry, Farrokhzad creates a deeply empathetic portrait of those rejected by society — a face-to-face encounter with the humanity behind the disease.
