In 1918, Leitão de Barros (1896-1967), who would become one of the most important Portuguese filmmakers of his generation, made his first films (three fictions and a documentary about Sidónio Pais), among which 'Mal de Espanha', a merry comedy at the seaside, about a family whose peace is disturbed by the coming of a Spanish singer.
