With the creation of Invicta Film, in Oporto (on 22nd November 1917) ends the so-called primitive period of the Portuguese cinema. Invicta was the first producing company with a solid financial grounds and a long-term project. They owned a studio and many of technicians had been brought from France. 'Frei Bonifácio', Invicta's first production, was directed by Georges Pallu, who had a career in Paris and worked in Portugal from 1918 to 1925, where he directed thirteen pictures, among which 'O Primo Basílio' and 'Amor de Perdição'. Made in five days, as a team's experience and a company's visiting-card, 'Frei Bonifácio' is a fine example of the producers and director's ambition. Invicta Film finished its activity in 1925, after having produced thirteen feature films and several shorts.
