A dramatised interpretation of the classic Blues, with an all Negro cast and Bessie Smith, in her only film appearance, as the wronged wife. W. C. Handy was music director as well as co-author of the script, and the music is played by James P. Johnson's Orchestra consisting almost entirely of members of the Fletcher Henderson Band with the W. C. Handy Choir. James P. Johnson appears on screen as the pianist. The movie was made in Astoria, Long Island, during late June 1929.
