«'Il processo di Frine' (based on Scarfoglio) is not a document about the past but accurately represents the 50s. Today it keeps the same freshness of that time due to its ludicrousness (by the way, Blasetti owes his success to 'Scarfoglio', Suso Cecchi D'Amico, Continenza and Lollobrigida). The 'historical' aspect of physical development is more than a joke (But, on the other hand, it is not just our law that prescribes that mental under-developed people must be absolved? Then why not also absolve an overdeveloped creature as this fabulous one?). It is a kind of manifest for a cinema that sees eroticism as a way to free itself from the neo-realist moral link as well as to assert itself, again, as show. The structure of the process itself is spectacular. This way, one wins the game of a culture that, due to a surplus of a self-destructing naturalism, lost contact with the only naturalism valid to Blasetti: the essential of the body, used so ironically by De Sicca - gesticulation and small talk, a funny body -
