Three pomegranates, the forest, a prince and his valet, girls and spells, the black Maria, the contradictions of enchanted love. The film starts with a sequence of exterior shots and we are led to believe that in this tale's adaptation we are going to join the twists and turns of the characters through the idyllic natural scenery. These locations were initially chosen in Serra de Sintra. Nothing could be more illusive. It seems that the shooting conditions were difficult and João César Monteiro, pure and simply, decided to move all his belongings to a studio, to be more precise, to the Tóbis Studios in Lisbon. This decisive and significant change in view of what was the initial shooting plan came to radically alter the essential features of the staging with the introduction of new scenic values.
