It's a story of a first voyage. Paulo Afonso, a young Portuguese scientist, is invited as observer on board of the Polarstern, the German polar research vessel. His destiny: the Antarctic Ocean and the German base of Neumayer. Storms, the austral summer light, lonely icebergs, albatrosses and sometimes a whale blow... Paulo Afonso meets an imaginary world. He also comes across other scientists who are trying to decipher the mysteries of this so unknown part of the planet.
