As the 60's dawned, Denmark was a provincial, introvertedlittle country on the fringes of Europe in almost every sense, it's cinema virtuallyunknown outside its own borders. In a handful of years it was suddenly the mostliberated society on the planet and its movies (along with those of Sweden) werebreaking box-office records all over the West and setting in motion the wider sexualrevolution in America and elsewhere. What on earth happened? This clips-ladenpresentation will attempt to explain how these dramatic changes came about by takinginto account the earlier precedents established by Swedish filmmakers and byhighlighting key films of this period and explaining their origins in a localcontext and the revolutionary impact they had on foreign audiences.
