Two youths, four years after the failure of May 1968. After Gilles (Cyprien Fouquet) and Christine (Virginie Ledoyen) are caught stealing records, he buys some dynamite and she is admitted to a psychiatric ward. She manages to escape and the two meet again at a party in an abandoned country house. They then make their way to a commune. The brilliant party scene that lasts over half an hour and is filmed with a roving hand-held camera, the incisive use of music (Nico, Roxy Music, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and others), and a walk through the woods reciting Allen Ginsberg all capture the spirit of the times and the world of these youths torn between rebellion and a nihilistic lack of direction, between loneliness and despair. This reminiscence inspired by his own autobiography was Olivier Assayas' contribution to the Arte series “Tous les garçons et les filles de leur âge”.
