As the title suggests, we are here at the beginning of everything. There is no sound, only rays of light that reveal delicate shapes: a spiral, a kind of cell. It seems as if we are about to enter a scientific world but this never happens, although one thing becomes clear: we are beyond human vision, at the lowest level of existence. The decaying film shows time and form as material that is sensitive to the passing of the years. In the end, only points of light remain in the immense darkness, as a kind of revelation of the beginning of something else, something that might be visible. A short film tribute to the first experiments and studies on the photographic image, “Prima Materia” is the latest work by Charlotte Pryce, an acclaimed American experimental artist who has already featured in the Curtas Festival in 2008 with “The Parable of the Tulip Painter and the Fly”.
