Christoph Girardet works mainly with found footage, including excerpts from films from the 1950s and 60s. He analyzes, deconstructs and puts film together again in order to produce new works, discovering or revealing new meanings in the images. “Synthesis” shows us the Book of Moses and Genesis through industrial, scientific and advertising films. Day and night, water and fire, air and land, the sun, moon and stars: the creation of the world is told in chemistry laboratory images, substances in laboratory test tubes or under the microscope. An act of God makes way for the celebration of science. Girardet is one of the most represented authors in the history of Curtas, individually or in collaboration with Matthias Mueller, and a regular presence in the competition, where he has already won an award. He was Curtas Vila do Conde Film Nominee for the European Film Awards in 2013 for “Cut”. He won the Onda Curta Prize in 2004 for “Play” and in 2003 for “Manual”, which also received a jury mention. In 2002, to commemorate 10 years of the festival, Curtas produced the film “Beacon”, directed in partnership with Mueller, and the duo was again in the spotlight in March 2005, opening Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery with the exhibition “Revisitations”.
