The film’s starting point is a photo from the late 19th century, when cinema had been invented and images acquired movement. Beginning with a copy of this photo and through its manipulation, Siegfried Fruhauf creates the illusion of movement, making a journey in time between photography and the cinema, between analogue and digital, at the same time transforming an image of a landscape into a contemplative dynamic image and abstract, which challenges and shocks the spectator. Fruhauf is one of the most innovative promulgators, among the present generation, of the structuralist tradition in Austrian avant-garde cinema, and has been a regular presence at Curtas Vila do Conde, where about two dozen of his works have already been shown over the years. He has entered a number of films in competition or in special programmes: “Exposed” (2001); “Bled” (2008); “Night Sweat” (2008); “Ground Control” (2009); “Tranquility” (2011) and “Schwere Augen” (2012). He was also a noticeable presence at the 13th Curtas Vila do Conde in 2005, with the screening of “Dissolution” at Solar, accompanied by a parallel screening of some of his other work. (MD)
