The universe of computer games and consoles allows its players to inhabit worlds far from reality, assuming various forms or embodying imaginary characters. However, when a hobby becomes an addiction, this immersion in a parallel world can also become a nightmare, as evidenced by the three testimonials we hear throughout this movie. Using animated images that could belong to any computer game, we follow three virtual figures while we discover stories of alienation from reality: how a father ignores his newborn son or how a boyfriend hides from his girlfriend on screen, even when on vacation halfway around the world. The film is a collection of stories which show how virtual existence takes over the lives of these people, who speak as if they were patients in recovery. The film marks the return to the festival of Jonas Odell who is also known for his music videos for bands such as U2 or Franz Ferdinand. He has visited the festival several times in the last decade, and returns here with a film which analyses human behavior, focusing on a new kind of contemporary affliction. (JA)
