Pixie is the only girl in a group of friends in a seaside town in the middle of nowhere. As the end of summer approaches, the arrival of an unknown boy brings changes to the group’s routine. “Dreamlands” unfolds as a strange and melancholy narrative of youthful emancipation, whilst also portraying a hedonistic and nihilistic teen culture that is alluring and sexually uninhibited, wavering between apparent toughness and real vulnerability. A take on the wonderful and very often horrible condition of being young and its insane and almost violent desperate need for pleasure. Sara Dunlop made various publicity films for international brands before becoming a film director. “Dreamlands” is her third short film. (SR)
