The work of artist Laida Lertxundi has become increasingly complex. Whereas in previous projects she has focussed on specific spaces such as interiors or landscapes, in “Vivir para Vivir” she aims to organise relationships based on intricate structures. Drawing on “For Shamanic Cinema”, the essay by French-based Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz which compares film directors to “shamans”, Laida Lertxundi constructs disparate sequences which appear to suggest that events are not only understood through the body, but can also be established or created, by embodied time itself, enabling the audience to imagine what happens off-screen. The soundscape is also vitally important and includes original sounds and music by Ezra Buchla, Albert Ortega, Laura Steenberge and Tashi Wada. (SG)
