The film shows, on a 16mm film, a spectacle of choreography between water jets, coloured lights and music played on a mechanical organ from the 20s which gives its name to the title. Installed since the middle of the 80s in a small theatre in the castle of Watermouth, North Devon, in the far Southwest of England, this tourist attraction was originally built for the Festival of Britain of 1951, a famous popular fair that has excited and mobilized the British. Sophie Michael, interested in the contemporary reaction to the technological wonders of the past, develops a perception game, between the objects and the illusory images thus obtained, using in-camera editing techniques. By handling the show register, she reorganises the image sequences in a sculptural sense and creates a secondary layer of synaesthesia between light and sound. (MM)
