Cinema, the United States of America and the mythology of both submitted to the rules, as capricious as geometric, of Luc Moullet’s film investigation. The result is modest and subversive, two qualities I rarely see together. As it is usually the case in this director’s films, viewers risk going from euphoria to melancholy without realizing what is happening to them, something I only understood when watching the feature films of the 70s like "Une Aventure de Billy the Kid", "Genèse d’un Repas" or the work of genius which is "Anatomie d’un Rapport". This "Le Ventre de l’Amérique" was my gateway to Luc Moullet’s films and one of the many things I owe to Curtas Vila do Conde. (Miguel Gomes)
