It is not enough, when writing a synopsis of "A Story for the Modlins", to say the short film by Sergio Oksman tells the story of Elmer Modlin, an obscure extra who dreamt of being an actor all his life, of his wife Margaret and their son Nelson – a family that during four decades lived confined in an apartment in Madrid, among apocalyptic paintings made by the mother. It is also important to mention the fascinations that inhabit the film: the filmmaker’s discovery, halfway through Calle Pez in Madrid – of a box with the archives of the Modlin family, which served as the motto and fuel for the film; the both assertive and delicate way in which Oksman films the photographic image; and more: this short film has room for the feature "Rosemary’s Baby" by Roman Polanski, in which Elmer Modlin takes part as a non-credited extra. In the end, if faced with the question "what is truth?", cinema’s mechanics of illusion will answer with another question: "what does that matter?" (Eduardo Brito)
