A short film with the touch of a feature. Louis Garrel does not directly cite his father, Philipe, but every now and then steals from him a certain manner of filming. Filiations aside, what is striking about this long short film (44 minutes) is precisely a secure style. That and a direction of actors capable of illuminating a dazzling Léa Seydoux. Garrel believes in his characters and in the euphoria of the state of passion. There is even immense tenderness in the way he celebrates that idea of "French romance". And everything is made with determination. They run through the streets of Paris, their bodies seem to burn with desire. The story of this young tailor does not wish to break with languages or reinvent them, it merely adjusts to an ideal of a classic love story. Funnily, in "Two Friends", his first feature, made immediately after this short film, Louis moved into other territories, somewhere between the vagabond burlesque and the tribute to André Téchiné.
