This small film is one of the most important works of Portuguese cinema. If Curtas is celebrating its 25th edition, "Parabéns!" by João Pedro Rodrigues celebrates 20 years since its production, when it became the starting point for the remarkable career of one of the most internationally renowned Portuguese filmmakers. This choice is a double celebration, if nothing else for its title: "Parabéns!". On the one hand, it evokes one of the works that initiated the regular production of Portuguese short films. On the other hand, this Festival which was and will remain the most important cinema screen in the country. Ana’s voice leaves a happy birthday message in her boyfriend’s, Chico, telephone answering machine, with whom she had agreed to have lunch before an exam. Ana’s voice wakes up two naked men in the near darkness of a room inside a flat. They are both young but one of them is younger than the other. One is an architect, the other a crazy kid from Almada that roams through Lisbon’s nightlife. During the 90s, in the alcohol fed frenzy of Lisbon’s nightlife, anything could happen and the next day you had to deal with the consequences! There is also a hungry frisky cat and a proper breakfast for both men. "Parabéns!" is also the first gay film in Portuguese cinema, where everything happens and then nothing really happens, except for a hangover following a spectacular night of drinking.
