In a small town outside Goiás, a group of teenagers works in a eucalyptus forest chasing ants away with pesticides, for which they are known as The Ant Killers. The main character, one of those teens, comes from a poor and dysfunctional family. Single and pregnant, probably victim of sexual assault, she starts identifying herself with the ants she kills, in the face of all adversity. This short film, which was selected to the Biennale, marks the return of João Paulo Miranda Maria to Curtas Vila do Conde, after “The Girl who danced with the Devil”, screened in the 2017 edition. Just as in his previous work, this fiction film is part of a very complex and specific context, in which a teenage girl has to deal with a sexist, religious, extremely intolerant and conservative society, which exploits and oppresses those who don't follow the established rules.
