Three men coming from outer space reach the Earth in order to investigate the origin of a mysterious sound signal. Years before, our planet had been abandoned, and only those who didn't have the means to leave stayed, left to their own devices. Resorting to science-fiction, Greek director Yorgos Zois nods to Steven Spielberg's masterpiece “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (the sound signals, the communication's main theme), but also “Stalker, by Andrei Tarkovski, and “La jetée”, by Chris Marker. Zois' notorious social and political concerns were already clear in his two previous films which Curtas screened (“Casus belli” e “Titloi telous”). Now he tackles the refugee crisis, through an outstanding sound work and lavish image, exploring the grandeur of cinemascope, the movement of the bodies of the three explorers coming from the future and the unreal setting of the old abandoned Athens' airport. In this way, Yorgos Zoi causes reality to collide with science fiction in this political film. (MD)
