In the new film by Rodrigo Areias, we see a photographer in a creative crisis. Day-to-day life is strange to him and moving is difficult. That crisis is reflected in his relationship with his partner, who is the model in his photographs. The connection they once had seems to have been lost and that highlights their inevitable separation. What is it, then, that remains of this love — for the woman, for his creative work — that is so important? The film is only solved through excess, as if the carnal dimension of passion could rescue a love that no longer exists. Areias is one of the most important names of the newest Portuguese cinema, both through his production company Bando à Parte and through his several films, many of them screened at Curtas, from features and shorts, to music videos and experimental pieces of work. “Corrente”, a film from 2008, won both the National Competition and the Audience Award.
