Included in the collective film “Footsteps in Jerusalem”, and a tribute to the godfather of modern Israeli documentary film, David Perlov, “Ammunition Hill” is an observational documentary about Israel's popular eponymous memorial. Lapid focusses on a field trip of 12-year-old students from Tel Aviv, one day in June 2013. The guided tour itself is already a bit ludicrous, since the children are being introduced to a belligerent culture, by wearing uniforms and holding disabled machine guns. In this disguise, the children walk through the site as if they were soldiers in the middle of a war. The contrast between their youth, the educational nature of the visit, and the war setting unveils a certain Israeli identity built upon conflict and gun-culture. (DR)
