During the night, a girl realises her girlfriend disappeared after they had sex: she isn't home and doesn't answer her cell phone. The girl goes out searching for her only to find darkness and the still of the night. From the outset, the references to sex and homosexuality are extremely unusual in Iranian cinema thus implying the disruptive character of the film. Throughout the late-night walk, the protagonist starts by stumbling upon a supernatural scene, as the streets are completely empty. But then, when she spots a strange man in the distance, the focus shifts to the man's mysterious identity. In a film that is constantly changing, in a permanent state of mutation, like if it were mirroring the complexities of a country with many faces, when the man approaches the girl that's when the pursuer becomes the persecuted, and the question becomes the role of gender in the relationship of power between them. However, as the girl comes closer to her house, a safe gated community in a wealthy neighbourhood, we realise that social classes are also an issue here. This film, which was selected to Cannes' official competition, marks the debut of Saeed Jafarian at Curtas. (JA)
