From a science fiction movie of the fifties called “La tierra contra los platillos volantes”, Kikol Grau directs a music video for the musical group Tarantula, full of imagination, action and destruction. The images taken from Fred F. Sears' film are the visual element that allows to display and develop a frontal attack towards some of the strategic points of the city of Barcelona. This belligerent plan is designed to illustrate the theme “Antisistema Solar”, which belongs to the record “Humildad Trascendental” (Producciones Doradas, 2009). Joe Crepúsculo, Daniel Granados and Vicente Leone are abducted by a non-identified object. From inside a flying saucer the three elements of Tarantula, followed by an enigmatic pilot, deploy their war arsenal, hitting everything in sight, with no regard whatsoever. The shots taken from the American feature film draw a hilarious and hyperbolic plot, whose whole reason is to simulate the destruction of the iconic and famous buildings and monuments of Ciudad Condal. Unceremoniously knocking down Jean Nouvel's Agbar Tower, the statue of Columbus, the Mapfre Tower and the Hotel Arts, the video shows the disintegration of the Washington Capitol as if it were the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc. Matching some buildings with others, a game of association is set in place where, for example, "the monument to nothing", that is the obelisk in the corner of Diagonal with Passeig de Gràcia, seems to have been dismantled, due to a collision with a flying saucer. In this low-fi aesthetic representation, black and white fragments of the original film intersect with present-day video recordings. Among these are included weaponry sound effects, cut-out figures and coloured drawings that accentuate the contours of the moving elements, highlighting a rogue behaviour whose aesthetics is inevitably naïve.
