Images of the island of Santiago, even in slow motion, follow on from each other slowly, accentuating the influence of the Funanâ lentu beat, the sound of the interior of the biggest island on the archipelago of Cape Verde. The pace quickens when this traditional rhythm merges with an electronic beat, explaining the phrase Dino D’Santiago displays on his shirt: “Funaná is the new Punk”. The film, directed by Pluma, uses and cinematically heightens this wavering and clear tension between two sounds with different rhythms which gives rise to something new. (PC)
