Italian artist Rosa Barba returns to Curtas Vila do Conde – where she has won the Experimental competition main award in 2015, with “Bending to Earth” – bringing her latest work, “Aggregate States of Matters”. Filmed in 35 mm in Peru, the short film underlines the ambiguous relationship between humans and nature. Rosa Barba worked with communities affected by the clearing of a melting glacier, and the resulting exposure to geological time. The artist registers the slowness of the glacier’s disappearance, as well as how it is perceived within the Quechuan community, in the Andes. At the same time she learns the different local myths that characterize that community, Rosa Barba explores new realities by rendering their ancestral culture and knowledge into the present time. (PD)
