Following her path on the essayistic tradition of Chris Marker, Filipa César presents “Quantum Creole” as part of a larger project that proposes a triangular criss-cross within the concepts of textile fabric (cotton), linguistic fabric (the creole), and computational fabric, exploring excerpts of works and performative readings by authors as diverse as Diane McCarty, Muhammed Lamin Jadama, Olivier Marboeuf, and Wendy Hui Kyong Chung, among many others. Through the looms and the “fetishistic gestures” of weavers, orphans of Amílcar Cabral and Titina Silá, national heroes who were killed during the fight for Guinean independence, this work proposes a reflection on the many forms of exploitation, from Portuguese colonization over the last centuries to the current paradigm of global capitalism. Filipa César is a regular at Vila do Conde, having already won the Grand Prix in 2015 with “Mined Soil”, and presented videos and installations at the Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery (“Montage”, in 2010).
