The complicity between image and sound is pushed to the limit in “Blaze”, with the furious sound distortion of Shapednoise’s music scoring the relentless visual distortion and disorientation created by filmmaker and visual artist Pedro Maia, a recurring name in this year’s competition. The result is a series of intimidating images that unfold like an ever-changing nightmare, a ghostly choreography of fear of something hard to identify, exploring the terror of the unknown and the limits of body horror, until the degradation takes over the image itself.
