The reflection of two girls travelling on a train, while another says goodbye to her family. A hot summer afternoon in a village in southern Spain. Some kids play with a rabbit, until a woman picks it up, holds it, and then kills it with a sudden blow. When she skins and guts the animal, her grandkids watch closely this ritual, symbolic of the cycle of life. Composed of fragments, “The Entrails” (2016) is, at the same time, a documentary and a film-poem, an essay and an ambitious gesture in the way it seeks to dwell on the ephemerality and fragility of life. At a certain point, it gently lingers on the image of a burning fire, while a litany of words appears over it; later, a voice whispers a poem as if it were a lullaby – after all, these are stories repeated from generation to generation.
