The artists Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela have created a sensitive and warm universe between human and nature, in movies that explore this age-old tension, such as “The Mesh and the Circle” (2014) or “Luminous Shadow” (2018). This is the same tone adopted in “The Cypress Dance”, a sort of sophisticated ethnography, which both resembles António Reis’s and Margarida Cordeiro’s universe, and grows within the dimension of experimental cinema, in which image and sound are in constant tension, and the impending fusion between bodies (human, animal) and nature is felt. At the same time, texts by Paul Valéry and Georges Bataille, as well as Mariana Barrote’s drawings, create a web around the desire and the bodies, in a sensitive interpretation of what makes us human. Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela have a close relationship with Curtas Vila do Conde, including an individual exhibition at Solar, “Rudimental”, held at the gallery in late 2019. (DR)
